Things To Do

First to spot a wild haggis....

*Seriously, they are out there, we have it on good authority that a chap once mentioned that he knew someone who said a rare left handed wild haggis was spotted in the front garden of Morlich House sometime in the last three years...

Do some shopping? get married? Gretna Green is only a 30 minute drive away...

Visit Grey Mare's Tail nature Reserve, one of the UK's highest waterfalls plunging 60m from Loch Skeen into the valley below and just 10 miles from Moffat.

If your a National Trust Scotland Member then you could also visit:
Robert Small's Printing Works - Thomas Carlyle's Birthplace - Priorwood Garden

Go Castle Hopping!:
Drumlanrig - Traquair - Caerlaverock (my personal fav)

If your an Historic Scotland Member then you could also visit:
Sweetheart Abbey - New Abbey Corn Mill (Fantastic ground oats!) - Lochmaben Castle

A great source of information see: VisitMoffat site

Fancy some calm spiritual time? Then visit: Kagyu Samye Ling Tibetan Buddhist Monastery

Need to brush up on some cookery skills or looking to expand your repertoire? Then visit: Station House Cookery School in Kirkudbright, running various (and tasty) short courses throughout the year

There is so much to do, this page could go on forever! Visit a Gin or Whisky distillery (or closer to home sample some in the Moffat Wool Mill!), don't forget to pick up some Moffat Toffee (Yum!) and my personal choice, jump on your motorbike and go explore (perhaps the Devil's Beef Tub?), its great out there! (Not after the Gin or Whisky tasting mind)

*Regarding the Haggis sighting... not really**
**It was most likely the more common right handed one
